The Powerboat Taster and Experience Day is run subject to weather conditions.
This one day session is an introduction to boating techniques for everyday boat handling and the use of safety equipment.
This session is aimed at anyone who wish to start on the RYA Powerboat scheme or who just want to experience the thrill of helming a powerboat.
Those considering buying a powerboat can get a good idea about boating by attending, and partners of boaters can use the course to acquire the skills necessary to handle a craft in an emergency if their partner is incapacitated.
Attending a taster session is NOT a prerequisite before attending Powerboat Level 1 training, it’s a fun day on the water.
The session acts as a good introduction to the world of power boating.
Your instructor will cover the following topics with you during your day of training:
- Preparation of boat
- Boat Handling
- Picking up and securing to a mooring buoy
- Leaving and coming alongside
- Being towed
The shore based element of the day will cover personal buoyancy, insurance, loading and how this effects handling and performance, balance, crew members, awareness of other water users, collision regulations (IRPCS), local bylaws and accepting a tow and rope work.
Pre Course Requirements.
No prior boating experience or powerboat training is necessary.
